Meet The 18-Year-Old Goalkeeper Who Has Been Trending On Social Media
The picture of an 18-year-old South Sudan goalkeeper, Godwill Yogusuk Simon Sabio has been trending on social media for the past few hours. The picture has gotten the internet buzzing because of the supposed age of the thr U-20 goalkeeper.
He became popular after helping his country record their first-ever win in a CAF tournament. Godwill Yogusuk Simon Sabio plays in the Under 20 CAF tournament which is being held in Egypt. What most people seem shocking about the goalkeeper has to do with his age. Using a real African age to compare his age, many believed that Godwill should be in his forties.
According to football records, Godwill Yogusuk Simon Sabio was born in 2004 which makes him 18 years old.
Simon Sabio who is participating in the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt is one of the talented players at the tournament.
The teenage goalkeeper was in the post to help South Sudan record their first-ever win at the tournament.
Godwill Yogusuk Simon Sabio inspired the Bright Stars of South Sudan to beat the Central African Republic 1-0 in their Group B encounter.
The 18-year-old was instrumental for South Sudan as he made a couple of saves to ensure that his side keeps a clean sheet.
He was awarded the Man of The Match award for his top performance in the game.
Following his performance in the game, many football fans have been wondering if Simon Sabio is indeed 18 years old because of his matured looks.
The 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, officially known as the 2023 TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, is the 17th edition of the biennial African international youth football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (24th if tournaments without hosts are included), hosted by Egypt from 19 February to 11 March 2023.
The tournament also doubles as the African qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Indonesia. The top four teams will qualify for the World Cup.
Ghana were the defending champions, having won their 4th title in 2021, but will not defend the title after failing to qualify for the tournament.
