Duncan Williams, Eastwood Anaba Resign From National Cathedral Board of Trustees

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, and Rev. Eastwood Anaba, have officially resigned as Board of Trustees overseeing the construction of the National Cathedral.
In a joint statement issued by Archbishop Duncan-Williams and Rev. Anaba, they clarified that their decision to step down is a direct result of the government’s failure to appoint an independent accounting firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of all public funds contributed to the National Cathedral project. Back on January 23 of this year, these two religious leaders had called for an immediate suspension of the project and a financial audit.

They cited the controversies surrounding the project as the reason for their call, emphasizing that such a suspension would have paved the way for transparency and accountability for the benefit of the Ghanaian people. In a memo addressed to the Board of Trustees, they had also stressed the importance of an independent audit of the project’s expenditures.
However, in their most recent joint statement, the clergymen expressed their disappointment that little progress has been made in response to their request, leading them to resign from their positions on the project board. They made it clear that their resignation is an act of conscience and faith, and it is not intended to undermine the vision or purpose of the National Cathedral. Instead, they believe it will help ensure the project’s advancement with a foundation of integrity, efficiency, quality, and the continued trust and support of the public.

“We, therefore, regret that as a matter of conscience and faith, we hereby submit to you our resignation from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral. We honourably assure you, as we assured the Board of Trustees in January 2023 with the submission of our Resolution, that our action in no way impugns the vision or intent of The National Cathedral, but rather ensures that it is advanced and built on a foundation of integrity, efficiency and quality while garnering and maintaining public trust and support.”
