Delayed Teacher Trainees Allowances: Gov’t releases funds

The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has indicated that the government of Ghana has released funds for the payment of the ‘much-expected but delayed’ teacher trainees allowances.

Dr. Yaw Adutwum made this known to the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) at a meeting with the leadership of the union.

The Minister of Education said “funds have been released by the government for the payment of the allowances for teacher trainees across the 46 public Colleges of Education in the country.”

He added that the government of Ghana led by Nana Akufo-Addo is committed to paying the teacher trainees allowances. It is an important intervention by government to the trainee teachers, he said.

The government restored the teacher trainees’ allowance after it wrestled power from the then NDC government in the 2016 general election.

Earlier this month, there has been complaints and reports that, the various Colleges of Education were thinking of shutting down due to the lack of funds for food items.
