Electoral Commission To Cancel 17 Political Parties In Ghana
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has identified 17 political parties without local or national representation.
So, the EC has given the 17 political parties until Thursday, October 20, 2022, to show why their registrations shouldn’t be canceled under the Political Parties Act of 2000, Act 574.
The United Progressive Party (UPP), which is based in Kumasi and led by Akwasi Addae, also known as Odike, is one of the parties.
The United Front Party (UFP) is another one on the list. It was also started by Akwasi Addai Odike and Nana Agyenim Boateng, who is better known as Gyataba. However, after some disagreements, Odike left or was kicked out and started a new party, the UPP.
The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) is also on the list. It was started by Dr. Obed Yao Asamoah and a few other National Democratic Congress (NDC) members who were unhappy with some things that were happening in the NDC and left to start the DFP after the 2005 national executive elections in the NDC.
