FAWE & Mastercard Foundation Announce 200 Fully Funded STEM Bursaries

A life-changing opportunity has opened for hundreds of young Ghanaians as the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Ghana, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, officially launches applications for the Second Cohort of the FAWE/Mastercard Foundation Phase II Bursary Program for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The program, which has already transformed the lives of many marginalized youth, will this year provide 200 fully funded bursaries, with a bold commitment: 80% reserved exclusively for young women, and 20% for young men from underserved communities. An additional 5–15% of slots are dedicated to applicants living with disabilities, refugees, or internally displaced persons.

A New Push to Increase Women Participation in STEM

The bursary targets brilliant but financially challenged young people — especially girls — who are eager to pursue technical or STEM-related programs at partner institutions. The initiative is designed to break financial barriers and empower youth with technical and entrepreneurial skills to thrive in industries that urgently need fresh talent.

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 15–25 at the time of application

  • Must have completed WASSCE or Certificate II

  • Must face genuine financial need

  • Must come from one of the following regions: Northeast, Savannah, Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Oti, or Volta

  • Must be seeking entry into HND, Diploma, or Certificate programs

  • Must be ready to give back to their communities

Applicants must also intend to study at one of FAWE’s partner technical universities, including:
Bolgatanga Technical University, Cape Coast Technical University, Ho Technical University, Takoradi Technical University, Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University, Tamale Technical University, Koforidua Technical University, and Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training & Entrepreneurial Development.
