Kade SHS Teacher Assault: GES Issues Strong Warning as Video Sparks National Outrage

Kade SHS students assault

GES Responds After Students Attack Kade Teacher Over Strict WASSCE Invigilation, Investigation Begins.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued an immediate and strongly worded statement after a disturbing video showing the assault of a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School went viral on social media. The teacher, identified in the GES document as Mr. Michael Quayson, was reportedly attacked by past students of the school because he refused to allow malpractice during the 2025 WASSCE Christian Religious Studies paper.

According to the official GES press statement, the incident did not occur recently, but on 5th October 2025, and was never reported to school authorities until the viral video surfaced online this week. This revelation has raised serious concerns about under-reporting of violence against teachers and the growing trend of exam-related attacks.

GES says it has now taken over the matter and launched full investigations.

“Unacceptable, Unlawful, and a Direct Affront” — GES Condemns the Assault

In the statement signed by Daniel Fennyi, Head of Public Relations, GES condemned the attack “in the strongest terms,” describing it as:

Teachers Assured of Protection

GES further reassured teachers nationwide of its support in protecting the integrity of examinations, especially at a time when scrutiny on WASSCE performance is at an all-time high.

“Management assures all teachers nationwide of our full support in instilling discipline and ensuring examination integrity,” the statement emphasized.

Students were also urged to respect authority and uphold discipline.

BACKGROUND: WHY THESE ATTACKS ARE HAPPENING

This latest incident forms part of a worrying pattern across the country following the release of the 2025 WASSCE results. In recent weeks:

1. Kade — WASSCE Candidates Attacked Teachers at Night

GNAT condemned another violent incident at Kade where candidates stormed teachers’ residences at night, accusing them of causing their failure because they prevented cheating.

2. Viral Videos of Students Crying or Absconding After WASSCE Results

Another case circulated on social media where an SHS graduate with aggregate 44 refused to return home, blaming his poor performance on exam difficulties.

3. Rising Reports of Exam Malpractice Pressure

Eduwatch and WAEC have repeatedly warned that cheating in schools has become systemic, with increasing pressure on teachers to “allow” malpractice during national exams.

4. Government Concern Over Mass Failures

President Mahama recently directed the Education Minister to review examiner reports to understand the root causes of mass failures in the 2025 WASSCE.

Across all these cases, teachers are increasingly becoming the targets of frustration and blame — especially when they enforce exam rules strictly.

WHY THIS STORY IS TRENDING

✔ The assault was captured on video
✔ The incident was hidden for months
✔ GES has now confirmed punitive actions
✔ Teachers nationwide are calling for stronger protection
✔ Public concern over WASSCE failures is at a peak

This combination has made the Kade assault a national conversation on discipline, exam integrity, and respect for teachers.
