Fire guts boys dormitory of Koforidua Technical Institute; 8 students injured

The fire destroyed the boys’ dorm at the Koforidua Technical Institute in the Eastern Region’s New Juaben North Municipality.

Monday night at 11:45 p.m., a fire broke out and quickly spread through four rooms before the National Fire Service was able to stop it and keep it from spreading to other rooms.

75 students were affected, and they lost everything they owned. One person is still being cared for at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Koforidua. Eight of them had minor injuries and were treated and sent home.

It is not clear what caused the fire, but the Ghana National Fire Service says that early investigations point to an electrical problem.

In an interview with Citi News, the school’s principal, Bernard Forson, asked the public to help the school with some relief items.

DO1 Emmanuel Acquaye, who is in charge of the municipal fire department and is at the scene with his crew as part of the investigation, said that the service is planning to hold a series of student events to teach students how to deal with fires.
