Five social impacts of colonial rule on Africa
Being an European means a native of European.
In the early thirteenth century European countries such France, Portugal, Britain,Spain, Germany among others explore arrived in Africa purposely to trade with the local people but along the way they started imposing their political powers in Africa that is they started colonising many African countries.
During their tenure as the head of the political administration of the country, they were able to able to put some measures in place to promote the social life of the indigenous.
These are some of the social impacts of colonial rule in Africa
1.Introduction of new religion: Before the coming of the Europeans, Africans were worshiping the Supreme being though idols and minor gods.But through the contact of the European missionaries new religion was introduced that is Christianity where they worship the supreme being without any intermediary
2.Improvement In Education: one of the social impacts of colonial rule is Africa.As education can not be left out in the development of a country,the colonial administration made their maximum best to establish more schools in Africa in order to eradicate high illetracy in the continent.
But introduction of the western Education there was informal system of education with was basically done in the house by parents to educate their children on a certain craft, occupation and duty.
3.improvment in health care facilities: Through the contact with the Europeans,the health care system improve as results of the measures they put in place.Hospitals were built in the continent, medical doctors were trained and there was improvement in personal hygiene.
4.Housing faculties: There was changes in the housing plan in Africa.Before then, housing in Africa were built with mud and wood but it was the introduce blocks building in Africa.Example,In Ghana, a Basel missionary was nicknamed “osiadan” meaning building of house because of a couple of houses she built in the area (Akropong)
Also castles were built as a residence for the colonial administrators
5.Improvement in Agriculture: Through the intervention of the Europeans rule the agriculture system was changed.Before the Europeans, Agriculture was done is persistent manner that is they only farmed to cater for only the family.
But the introduction of new crops , the agricultural systems was changed to commercial and agricultural institute were also built In many African countries in order to improve the boost the economy since is considered as the backbone of very countries economy
