Free SHS food suppliers threaten legal action over GH¢200m unpaid arrears
At a time the government led by Vice President Bawumia is planning to gift every Free SHS student a laptop, Free SHS food suppliers have threatened to take legal action over their GH¢200 million unpaid arrears.
According to the National Food Suppliers Association, should the government fail to honour its obligations owed to them, by 16th June 2023, they will have no option but to drag the government before the court.
The association members have put arrangements in place to commence their picketing at the National Food Buffer Stock Company premises as part of efforts to demand the payment of the arrears owed them by the government.
The concerns were noted while Ghanaeducation.org monitored an interview on the matter with Citi News. The leader of the association, Kwaku Amedume, disclosed that every effort by the group to get their money paid by the government has proved unsuccessful.
They are however ready to take drastic steps to get their locked-up funds paid.
According to the group, all efforts to have the government pay the over GH¢200 million owed its members have proven futile, hence the decision to picket at the office of the National Buffer Stock company. Kwaku Amedume furthered that, they were tired of the empty promises from the government.
The leader also indicated that their locked-up capital has also lost value and that, they will press charges against the government to get their funds paid to them.

“We will be proceeding to court because the money we are taking from the government is without interest and the money has been with the government for two years. So if we must go to court, we will be asking for interest on our money because we are spending so much to get this money. We will be asking for damages and compensations and anything that our lawyers may deem proper.”
