Freemason in Ghana: All You Need to Know (DETAILS)
The Freemasons are the oldest fraternity in the world. They are also the most popular and the biggest.
Members of this fraternity have a strong sense of brotherhood for each other, which makes their relationship with each other something that many other fraternities around the world would like to have. Ghanaians are also a part of this group of interesting people.
If you are in Ghana and want to know about Freemasonry in Ghana, you just found the right post. We will talk in-depth about the brotherhood in Ghana and everything that comes with it. Let’s talk about the specifics.
Freemasonry’s history in Ghana
Since the 1800s, the Brotherhood has been operating in Ghana. In Ghana, the first Masonic Lodge was opened at this time. The fraternity has more than six million members all over the world, with many of them living in Africa.
Everyone in Ghana is expected to believe in a Supreme Being or Creator. You can be a member no matter who you are or what your social status is. Here are the world’s oldest grand lodges and the years they were made official:
England – 1717
Ireland in 1725, France in 1728, and the U.S. in 1730.
1736 in Scotland
You can join the Freemasons in two different ways. The first one is by invitation from a current member, and the second is by choice. Most of the time, the way to get in depends on where you are.
The idea for freemasonry comes from 4,000 years ago, when the Solomonic Temple mentioned in the Bible was built. During the Middle Ages, stonemasonry was a very popular skill.
Several religious books, including the Bible, the Quran, the Vedas, and the Torah, talk about Freemasonry. Also, the art of this fraternity is mentioned in Masonic books, old lodge charters, and manuscripts from as far back as 1390.
Some of the rules that guide friendships and fellowships are the following:
Education: Being honest with yourself
Personal responsibility
Morality
Character \Ethics
Donations to charities and other good causes
Even though most of the Freemasonry’s rules have been made public, the group’s inner workings are kept secret. They also can’t talk about politics at their meetings.
The Torridzonian Lodge No. 621 was the first Freemason lodge in Ghana. It was opened in 1810. In 1833, the second lodge, Cape Coast Lodge No. 599, was formed. In 1863, both lodges went out of business.
In 1859, the United Grand Lodge of England set up the Gold Coast Lodge No. 1075. Later, the lodge’s number was changed to 773, and it has been running ever since. At the turn of the 19th century, the English Constitution of the UGLE blessed a lot of other lodges.
Some of them include:
