GES doesn’t respect teachers: GNAT, NAGRAT, and CCT-GH have joined them -Innovative Teachers Claim
The Innovative Teacher one of the teacher unions at the Pre-tertiary level has stated that the GES doesn’t respect teachers and that GNAT, NAGRAT, and CCT-GH have unfortunately joined in the gross disrespect fray.
This comes in the wake of the commencement of the distribution of laptops to teachers under the One Teacher One Laptop initiative of the government.
In an interview with Admo FM monitored by Ghanaeducation.org, the leader of Innovative teachers Mr. Stephen Desu. He indicated that the government is supposed to provide teachers with the needed tools for work as prescribed by the labour law.
He added that the low-quality brand of computers being distributed to the teachers is an insult to teachers. He referred the government to the challenges teachers faced with the RLG laptops which teachers could not repair when they broke down.
Teachers are expected to pay 30% of the very tools the employer is expected to provide for the performance of their duties.
He added that the GES doesn’t respect teachers, GNAT, NAGRAT, and CCT-GH have joined them because if they respect teachers, they would have considered laptop brands of higher value on the market for teachers. He quizzed if the same laptops would have been considered for parliamentarians.
He buttressed his claims of disrespect of teachers with the government’s decision to provide MP with loans to buy cars. He said the GES and MoE decided to secure a contract with low brand manufacture to reduce the cost of production and maximize profit to their advantage and not helping the teacher and education in Ghana.
He said the move by the GES, GNAT, NAGRAT, and CCT-GH is a sign of gross disrespect to teachers. Mr. Desu quizzed if the Ministry of Education will procure the same laptops for their officers and officers if the need arises for the supply of laptops.
When we change government and the new one has come, it must learn from the mistakes of the past relating to the RLG laptops supplied to teachers under the NDC government.
Mr. Desu stated that Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin Esq., Member of the Parliament of Ghana for the Effutu constituency, Central Region procured HP laptops for all teachers in his constituency for free, he sees no reason why the government cannot do the same for teachers at no cost to the teacher.

He added that the brand is not good, the GES decided to deduct insurance premium from teachers’ salaries without coming to teachers to seek their approval, and that it is one of the instances where the Ghana Education Service has disrespected teachers at the Pre-tertiary level. Teachers and SRC are doing the same to new teachers as well and nothing seems to be done about the matter.
