GES releases 2026/2027 academic calendar for Senior High Schools
The Ghana Education Service (GES) releases the 2026/2027 academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) in the country. The calendar also captured single-track schools and Transitional Schools.
Per the official communique on the released 2026/2027 academic calendar signed by the GES PRO, Daniel Fenyi, on June 1, 2026, school administrators, teachers, parents, and students are to be guided by the timetable as they plan the academic year.
The 2026/2027 academic calendar for Senior High Schools captures critical details such as the reopening days and vacation periods as well as online vacation classes and examination timelines for school-level examinations and WAEC-administered examinations.
Important dates for SHS students and teachers
All schools will break for the Christmas festivities from 19th December, 2026, to 4th January, 2027. Again in April, schools will break for the Easter festivities, starting on 25th March to 30th March, 2027. In June, 2027, all form 2 students will break for the midterm from 17th April to 20th April, 2027. However, WASSCE will be adminsitered to all final year students from 6th April to June 18th, 2026
Full 2026/2027 academic calendar for Senior High Schools
1. Single Track Schools: Forms 1 & 2
Per the new academic calendar for Senior High Schools, year one students (BECE 2026 graduates) will report to school on 18th September, 2026, and will remain on campus until they vacate on 29th January, 2027. However, they will have a Christmas break in December before returning to campus to complete the semester. The second semester of such students will take effect from March 30th, 2027, to July 30th, 2027. The same arrangement will apply to all second-year students in Single Track Schools.

2. Single-Track Schools: Form 3
While final-year students in Single Track Schools will reopen on 18th September, 2026, they will vacate on December 19th and reopen for their final semester on 1st February, 2027. These final-year students will be in school to prepare for their International WASSCE. Their academic year ends on 18th June, 2026.

3. All Forms: Transitional Schools
For first-year students who will be placed in transitional schools, 18th September will be the starting date for their secondary school academic journey. However, they will end their semester 1 on 16th April, 2027, to complete their semester 1. The second semester kicks off on 21st June, 2027 – 27th Aug, 2027.
