Ghana.gov Far Better Than NDC ’s E-services Platform; It’s Like Comparing a Mercedes to Aboboyaa — Ursula Owusu
“Comparing NDC ’s E-services platform to NPP’s Ghana.Gov is like comparing an Aboboyaa (tricycle) to a Mercedes,” Ursula Owusu Ekuful, Minister of Communication and Digitalization, remarked at a press briefing at the Ministry of Information in Accra on Sunday, February 18. This bold statement came in response to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) claiming that the Ghana.Gov portal, a flagship initiative claimed by NPP flagbearer and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was merely an enhancement of the E-service portal initiated under the NDC/Mahama administration in 2012.
The Statement, Ghana.gov now better than NDC’s E-service by Ursula owusu, does not only highlight the advancements made under the current government’s digital agenda but also to counter the opposition’s assertions by delineating the substantial differences between the two platforms.
The Minister provided a comprehensive rebuttal to the NDC’s claims, outlining the myriad of challenges that plagued the NDC’s version, which ultimately led to its discontinuation and the development of a new, more robust system. She clarified, “The e-Services platform was deployed in 2012 under the e-Ghana project as a pilot to produce an e-Government Portal to provide relevant government services to citizens and businesses. However, it had several limitations and was not as integrated or efficient as the current Ghana.gov platform.”
She further detailed the costs and functionalities of the old e-Services platform, developed by Messes IPMC for about US$547,000, and its subsequent e-Payment integration by Messrs AYA Technologies at a cost of US$267,000. These figures were presented to contrast the substantial improvements and financial efficiencies realized with the introduction of Ghana.gov.

The Ghana.gov platform, according to Minister Owusu Ekuful, stands out for its comprehensive services, offering a one-stop-shop for accessing a wide array of government services online. This platform has not only streamlined service delivery but has significantly enhanced government revenue mobilization efforts. Since its launch, Ghana.gov has facilitated the collection of GHS 210 billion, showcasing its effectiveness in improving government operations and service to the citizenry.
The Minister’s address underscored the current administration’s dedication to digital transformation, aiming to bridge the digital divide and ensure inclusive access to government services. This commitment to improving digital infrastructure and service delivery contrasts sharply with the previous platform’s limitations, marking a significant leap forward in Ghana’s digital journey.
In drawing this comparison, Ursula Owusu Ekuful’s message was clear: the advancements under the NPP government, particularly with the Ghana.gov platform, are transformative, elevating the standard and accessibility of government services to a level previously unattained. This progression, likened to the upgrade from an Aboboyaa to a Mercedes, encapsulates the vision and achievements of Ghana’s digital transformation agenda under the current leadership.
