Ghana National College Celebrates Its 75th Anniversary

The official launch of the 75th Anniversary of the Ghana National College has taken place  at a brief ceremony held in Accra on the theme: 75 Years of Holistic Education, Nurturing Leaders for the 21st Century”.

Spearheaded by the Old Students Association , the event was used to unveil the Schools’s Anniversary logo and climaxed with the inauguration of a 10-Member Planning Committee served with the mandate to ensure the successful execution of planned activities earmarked for the celebration.

The Ghana National College is one of Ghana’s prestigious educational institutions. A seed sown by Ghana’s first President in July 1948 with 10 pounds long before Gold Coast became Ghana. The foundation was laid together with four other teachers who were expelled  from St Augustine’s College and Mfantsipem school by the British colonial government.

Since it’s establishment, the school has build a solid reputation in academics among other disciplines, making it one of the preferred second cycle schools in the country.

The school which pride itself as an institution of excellence also boast of contributing substantially to the human resource base of the country having produced distinguished  personalities excelling in various fields of endeavor.

The launch of the anniversary was to take stock of its achievements and to consolidate the gains made through it fore bearers. The President of Jayee University College who also represented as the chairperson for the occasion, John Donkor praised staff and management of the school as well as chiefs and people of Cape coast for being part of the success story.

The National President of the Old Students Association and a renowned legal practitioner, Egbert Faibille Jnr recounted some challenges facing the school and called on the old students to commit it resources to their alma mater. He hinted plans by the association to provide the school with needed modern infrastructure to support science education and also raise funds to address the persistent water shortage faced by students.

Other Speakers paid tribute to Osafgyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah for his visionary leadership which has paid off till date. They charged the old students to give practical meaning to the chosen theme and contribute to the school’s endowment fund to enable it undertake more projects for enhance  teaching and learning.

The launch saw the cutting of the anniversary cake preceded by the unveiling of the anniversary logo. The oath of office and secrecy for the 10- member anniversary planning committee was administered by the President, Egbert Faible.
