Ghana Set to Undo Akufo-Addo’s University Name Changes that took place during the last 8 years. 

The government is taking into consideration returning to the primary names of universities that were modified during the ruling of the former government. Recently, sessions have been in progress with academia, alumni, civil society organisations, traditional authorities, important beneficiaries, and students having that purpose.

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, who declared this at the launch of a 19-member Governing Council of the Dr Abdulai Salifu Technical University in Accra, headed by Mandori Wura Alhaji Seidu Iddi, stated he would present a new bill in front of Parliament that would strive to change the names of some public universities. He said there is a turnabout; there will be a renaming of the universities that were completed. It is not to break down to admit the assistance of any individuals or reduce the effects of any statesman or decline their assistance to our national exploit.

The education minister, nevertheless, said that those who genuinely earned national glory would still have their glory to themselves.  For example, he stated that Dr Abdulai Salifu Technical University would be renamed to Tamale Technical University. He said persons and beneficiary variations had all demonstrated, “The university is well-known as an institution with the most revolts.” Haruna Iddrisu remembered that the university, which was previously known as T-Poly, was one of the most alluring in an attempt to find polytechnics in the country and so requested the committee to relocate the institution to take its distinction as an institution of high quality, with particular interest in vocational training, technology and engineering. 24-Hour Economy. Tamale Technical University brought out the resourceful class that would not rely on the state-owned but could set up businesses of their own, which belong to them. Haruna Iddrisu said that if the country was to be successful in managing its high rate of unemployment adversity, having something to do with the issue of operability and appropriateness of individuals for other institutions of education, such as technical universities, had a very important responsibility to accomplish and offices.

The minister went on and stated that vocational education was aligned to the Ministry of Education, again saying, “I am working diligently to get the government of President Mahama to introduce a technical vocational education fund. “He granted that the 24-hour economy should be business-driven, with the government supplying and allowing the environment and the motivation that were necessary for the sector to succeed. Haruna Iddrisu stated that they will provide some prime concern attention regarding the structures.

“This year, the GETFund is also putting together some initial investment for the new universities that were introduced,” he added. Other members include the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bashiru Imoro Ibn Saeed; three nominees by the President — Yahaya Al-Hassan Seini, Dr Fatimah Von Abubakari, and Hajia Rahamat Abdul-Moomin.

The rest are a surrogate of the undergraduate students of the technical university, Asigri Solomon; a surrogate of the graduate students of the technical university, Alhaji Abdul-Ganiwu Inusah; a surrogate of the alumni of the technical university, Dr Jamal Deen Kukurah; a surrogate of the Ghana Employers Association, Cosmos Alhassan; and a surrogate of the Association of Principals of Technical Institutes, Mariama Mahama Admiration.

The Mandori Wura, Alhaji Iddi, expressed gratitude to the President for the confidence placed in them and provided an affirmation that they would operate to sustain the confidence placed in them. He pleaded with the government to give some motivation to industries that received students for apprenticeships to inspire others, and many companies to start working on the project.
