Google Pixel 7 Pro – Specs, Reviews and Prices In Ghana
Google’s Pixel family has become as expected as a new phone from Samsung or Apple in the second half of the year.
When the leaves change color and the air gets cooler, it’s a sure sign that a new Pixel is coming. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are Google’s newest products for 2018.
The Pixel 7 Pro is where Google really gets to shine and show the world what it thinks a flagship smartphone should be like. The Pixel 7 Pro is similar to its predecessor in a lot of ways. It has a unique look, great cameras, and software features that no other company can match.
But the Pixel 7 Pro has many of the same problems as the Pixel 6 Pro, like poor battery life and a lot of bugs. The Pixel 7 Pro shows that a year later, the Pixel 6 Pro’s foundation is still very solid.
But the fact that many of the same problems keep coming up again makes me worry that Google doesn’t know what to add to that foundation.
Google Pixel 7 Pro design
Last year, Google’s Pixel 6 family was the first to use a bold new design language. It came with two-tone colors and the now-iconic camera bar.
It made the Pixel go from boring to exciting, and it was a risk that paid off in a big way. The Pixel 7 Pro builds on the good work done by the Pixel 6 Pro, and with a few tweaks, it’s even better than before.
On the back of the phone, the camera bar is still there, but it is now protected by stainless steel instead of glass. I think the new look is pretty good.
The camera bar still stands out and is easy to find, and the cutouts for each sensor make it look even better.
But every design choice isn’t always a good one. Google decided to move the power button and volume rocker down the side of the phone. It’s not a big change, but Pixel 6 cases won’t fit the Pixel 7.
Worse, it means that the volume-down button is just low enough that it can be hard to press without a little hand gymnastics.
Pixel 7 Pro screen
The front of the Pixel 7 Pro is taken up by a 6.7-inch OLED screen. It has a resolution of 3120 x 1440, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and a peak brightness of up to 1,500 nits (just shy of the 2,000 nits offered on the iPhone 14 Pro).
It is also made of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, which keeps it from cracking and getting scratched.
One of my favorite things about the Pixel 6 Pro was the screen, and the Pixel 7 Pro is the same. This screen is nice to look at because it has bright colors, clear text, and good viewing angles.
I’m happy to use it to play games, watch movies, etc. During my time with the Pixel 7 Pro, the 120Hz refresh rate has also felt great. Everything on the Pixel 7 Pro feels as smooth as can be.
The new shape of the Pixel 7 Pro’s screen makes all of this even better. The Pixel 6 Pro’s screen had very sharply curved edges, which made it easy to touch by accident and nearly impossible to put on a screen protector.
The Pixel 7 Pro’s screen still has curved edges, but they are much less obvious than they used to be. I’d rather Google use an all-flat design as it does on the regular Pixel 7, but this is a good step in the right direction.
Face unlock on the Pixel 7 Pro and a fingerprint sensor
Face unlock was said to be coming to the Pixel 6 Pro for a long time, but that was a pipe dream that never came true. Face unlock is finally back on Pixel phones with the Pixel 7 Pro, but it’s not the same as it was on the Pixel 4.
Face unlocking works the same way on the Pixel 7 Pro as it does on OnePlus and Samsung phones. It makes it easy to get past the lock screen, but that’s all it does.
Use the Pixel 7 Pro’s in-screen fingerprint sensor to get into a locked app, approve a Google Pay purchase, or do anything else.
What’s good? I’ve had a lot of success with face unlock. I press the power button to wake up the screen, swipe up, and face unlock lets me go straight to my home screen. It’s quick and does the job.
Worse news? It doesn’t look like the fingerprint sensor has changed much at all. Sometimes, it works perfectly the first time it reads my fingerprint.
But when it does work, it usually takes a little longer than I would like. And when it doesn’t work, I usually have to try twice or three times before it scans my finger correctly. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s not all that great either.
Pixel 7 Pro cameras
A review of the Google Pixel wouldn’t be complete without talking about the cameras, so let’s get to it.
The main camera on the Google Pixel 7 Pro has 50MP, an f/1.85 aperture, and laser autofocus. In addition to the main camera, there is a 12MP ultrawide camera with a field of view of almost 126 degrees and a 48MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and up to 30x with Google’s Super Res Zoom. You also get a 10.8 MP front-facing camera.
The Pixel 7 Pro takes amazing photos, just like the Pixel 6 Pro did. The Pixel 7 Pro makes beautiful colors in all kinds of lighting, captures a lot of detail, and makes it so easy to take pictures that look great.
Just open the camera app and tap the button to take a picture. Google’s top-notch image processing will give you a beautiful photo.
If I had to find something I didn’t like about the Pixel 7 Pro’s camera, it would be that the pictures sometimes look a little too saturated and that Google’s HDR is sometimes too strong, preferring to get rid of shadows and make a scene as bright as possible.
But these are not exactly bad qualities. If you want an easy-to-use phone camera that can take great pictures that stand out, the Pixel 7 Pro does it without breaking a sweat.
But the Pixel 7 Pro isn’t just a powerful camera because of its main camera. This year, Google really stepped up its telephoto game, and it shows.
The camera app on the Pixel 7 Pro now has two quick-access buttons for 2x and 5x zoom. The first one zooms in on the main sensor, while the second one switches to the telephoto camera.
You can also keep zooming in until you get as close to your subject as you want—up to 30x.
Also very good is the ultrawide camera. It gets colors that are very close to what the main camera gets, and the wider field of view gives your shots a lot more context.
But the new Macro Focus mode on the ultrawide camera is a real show-stopper. Like the iPhone 14 Pro, when you get close enough to a subject, the camera automatically switches to the ultrawide camera for a macro shot, which comes out great.
The Pixel 7 Pro does a great job of letting you see individual grains of sand or get close to a flower. As long as you don’t mind how distorted the edges are, these pictures are a lot of fun to take.
The only thing I don’t like about the Pixel 7 Pro is the front-facing camera. It looks fine, but there’s nothing about it that stands out.
Because the focus is fixed, you often end up with soft details in some places, and you can’t get any natural bokeh. Coming from the iPhone 14 and its great selfie camera, the Pixel 7 Pro could have done a lot more here.
The software and features of the Pixel 7 Pro
The Pixel 7 Pro comes with Android 13 out of the box, and it will get three years of major OS updates (plus five years of security updates).
Since Android 13 is very similar to Android 12, the Android experience on the Pixel 7 Pro is almost the same as it was when the Pixel 6 Pro came out.
Google’s Material You theme engine makes it easy to change the look of your phone. The Quick Settings buttons are big and bright, and the Privacy Dashboard makes it easy to see how different apps are using your phone’s sensors.
There are small changes to the now-playing widget and Google Search interface, but if you’ve used a Pixel in the last year or so, you’ll feel right at home with the Pixel 7 Pro.
Pixels are great because they have the “stock” Android interface, but Google’s Tensor chip is where the real magic lies. The Pixel 7 Pro has all of these features that were on the Pixel 6 Pro.
Want to get rid of people or things that you don’t want in your photos? With Magic Eraser, you can do this with just a few taps. Waiting for a customer service representative to call you back?
Use Google Assistant to hold your place in line. These little features that make life easier are what makes the Google Pixel experience so magical, and they may be the best thing about the Pixel series in 2022.
The Pixel 7 Pro has all of the features from last year’s Pixel, plus a few new ones. Photo Unblur is one of the most important new features.
If you open Google Photos, find any picture, and start editing it, you’ll see a new “Unblur” button. When you click it, blur and noise will be taken out of your photos from the past.
Google’s examples of the feature make it look pretty cool, but in real life, it hasn’t been all that great.
I’m not sure if I notice a big difference in speed between the Pixel 7 Pro and the Pixel 6 Pro in my daily life. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad. I always thought the Pixel 6 Pro was quick and easy to use, and the Pixel 7 Pro is the same way.
When you tap on an app, it opens right away so you can use it. When you move your mouse over a website or Instagram, it moves with almost perfect smoothness.
Even when the graphics are set to very high and the frame rate is set to maximum, games like Call of Duty: Mobile runs beautifully.
But it doesn’t take long for all that power inside Tensor G2 to heat up, whether you’re switching between apps or playing your favorite mobile game.
The Pixel 7 Pro gets hot, just like other phones that have used Tensor before it. When you play a game like Call of Duty: Mobile for 20 minutes, the Pixel 7 Pro gets warm enough to feel. If you play for 30 minutes, it’s almost too hot to play.
When it’s not doing anything or just running one app, the Pixel 7 Pro is as cool as a cucumber. But don’t be surprised if the phone turns into a hand warmer when you ask it to do more.
Pixel 7 Pro battery
Battery life was one of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro’s biggest problems. The phones just didn’t last very long, which made people nervous even when they only used them a little bit. Do things get better with the Pixel 7 Pro?
A few days later, I had another day that started at 9 am and ended at 11 pm. After watching Twitch for more than an hour, YouTube for 50 minutes, and playing games for about 20 minutes, I had 3 hours and 33 minutes of screen time with 37% of my battery left. It’s important to note that almost the whole day was spent on Wi-Fi, while the Pixel 7 Pro spent most of the day before on a 5G connection.
I’ve noticed that the Pixel 7 Pro doesn’t use much power when it’s just sitting there. But as soon as you use more than one app, play games, or do anything else that requires Tensor G2 to work, its endurance quickly goes down.
Is this a bad way to use the battery? No. But it’s also not all that great. The Pixel 7 Pro seems to be at best a one-day phone, which is really disappointing for a device with a 6.7-inch screen and a 5,000mAh battery.
The price ranges from 6,000 Ghana Cedis to 8,000 Ghana Cedis.
