What our research found about BECE preparation and challenges in many schools
The “False Sense of Security” Bubble
Many Junior High Schools realize too late that high scores on internal terminal exams do not translate to WAEC standards. Students are often overly relaxed, thinking Grade 8 is a “rest year” before the final year rush.
How the Mock Solves It: It acts as an immediate wake-up call. By exposing learners to strict, WAEC-styled application and critical thinking questions early, it shatters complacency and instantly puts them in the serious frame of mind needed for the upcoming year.
2. Hidden Learning Gaps from Grade 7
Because of the dense Common Core Curriculum, teachers often push forward to cover Grade 8 syllabi without realizing students completely missed or misunderstood foundational concepts from Grade 7.
This exam specifically tests Term 1 to 3 contents across both Grade 7 and 8. It identifies exactly which foundational topics have structural gaps, letting teachers fix the broken rungs of the ladder before building Grade 9 lessons on top of them.
3. Blind Spots in Teacher Planning and Revision Strategies
Proprietors and headteachers often struggle to guide their staff objectively. Teachers may spend weeks revising topics they enjoy teaching, rather than the specific areas where the students are actually drowning.
How the Mock Solves It: Schools opting for the Premium Package receive a detailed, subject-by-subject examiner’s report. This provides the administration with precise, data-driven insights to mandate purposeful, targeted intervention plans instead of guesswork.
4. Poor Answer Structuring and Critical Thinking Deficits
Under the Common Core format, students lose massive marks not because they don’t know the answer, but because they don’t know how to answer. They struggle with case studies, application data, and section B formatting.
How the Mock Solves It: The mock exposes students early to the exact vocabulary, layout, and strict marking schemes used by official examiners. It gives teachers a clear window to train students on how to unpack complex question prompts well ahead of time.
5. Last-Minute Syllabus Panic and Inadequate Placement Prep
Waiting until Grade 9 to run mocks creates an environment of intense panic, rushed syllabus coverage, and high anxiety—which ultimately damages a school’s raw aggregate score and raw CSSPS placement metrics.
How the Mock Solves It: By starting the diagnostic process in June of Grade 8, you buy your school a 12-month head start. It allows for a calm, strategic, and highly organized roadmap toward the 2027 BECE, protecting your school’s hard-earned academic reputation.

Benefits of the mock examination
- Schools can use the mock examination to put their grade 8 learners in the mood for seriousness ahead of their promotion examination.
- The teachers and schools will better know their candidate’s strengths and weaknesses through the examination.
- Schools that opt for the premium service will have a detailed subject-based examiner’s report. This will help the school and teachers to know areas of weakness and the actual standard of their would-be-2027-BECE-candidates. Knowing this can help in planning, revision and key intervention planning.
- It offers teachers the chance to know grade 7 to 8 topics their candidates are struggling with so as to revisit them with purpose and strategically.
- The questions are WAECA styled and hence will give candidates and teachers a fair idea of their ability of students to answer critical thinking and application questions. This will help teachers to tighten the loose spots as their students prepare for grade 9.
