GTEC Warns Many Foreign Doctorate Degrees Held by Ghanaians Lack Accreditation

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has raised concerns about foreign doctorate degrees held by Ghanaians.
The warning targets institutions operating without proper accreditation.

GTEC says many foreign providers awarding doctorates to Ghanaians are not officially recognized.
The disclosure raises questions about academic credibility and quality assurance.

The Commission’s Chief Executive, Professor Ahmed Jinapor, issued the warning publicly.
He cautioned prospective students to verify accreditation before enrolling.

GTEC says unaccredited doctorates undermine academic standards nationwide.
They also complicate staff appointments, promotions, and professional recognition.

Officials say some institutions exploit demand for fast-track doctoral programmes.
These programmes often bypass rigorous research and supervision requirements.

GTEC says degrees from unaccredited institutions may not be recognized in Ghana.
Holders risk rejection during validation and employment processes.

The Commission is urging universities and employers to conduct strict credential checks.
Institutions are also advised to rely on approved accreditation databases.

GTEC says public awareness is critical to curbing the trend.
Further regulatory actions may follow to protect academic integrity.

Foreign Institutions Without GTEC Accreditation

These institutions have been named by GTEC as not meeting accreditation and quality assurance standards. Qualifications from them are not recognised for academic or professional purposes in Ghana:

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) wishes to formally notify all Heads of Tertiary Institutions that the ‘institutions’ listed below are currently not recognized by the Commission due to various Accreditation and Quality Assurance breaches. We hope you treat this caution with the seriousness that it deserves in your dealing with them.
