How 12 Ghanaians Travelled From Accra To Europe By Land
Embarking on interesting voyages that captivate the entire world is rare, but when 12 Ghanaians traveled from Accra to Europe by land, they did not only make history, but they challenged us all in our various rendezvous.
It is rare for people to forfeit the luxury of flying in an airplane to Europe for a rugged road journey through unfamiliar terrains but that was the adventure these 12 Ghanaians wanted and they made it a memorable one.
Today, they have become international icons in their own rights as well as promoting Ghana on a global scale.
Their journey started in Accra and all they envisioned was to end up in Europe and in London in the UK for that matter.
During an earlier interview they granted before reaching their destination, they told Kwami Sefa, the famous host of Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show that at the time of the interview, they were 7000 km into their historic feat. They added that they were in Spain and on the road and not in the air toward their final destination.
The Route of their travel
They moved from Accra Ghana through the West and headed toward the Northern part of Africa. According to one of the history-making explorers, they had read of how some other people traveled by road from Europe to Ghana and so they also decided to embark on the historic journey.
Some other countries they passed through were Ivory Coast, Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco in Africa after they left Ghana.
This helped them to reach Spain before they started their final lap of several more kilometres to get to London.
According to the adventurous Ghanaians, they travelled through various borders using their Ghana Cards which served as their passports.
Travellers reported that they used their Ghana Cards to travel to Mauritania with ease. The Ghana Card, which is primarily used for national identification, is also certified by the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) as an international travel identity card.
