How to buy ECG power using mobile app and Short Code

As part of efforts to make ECG services cashless, the Electricity Company of Ghana has introduced its how-to-buy ECG power using a mobile app and a Short Code to make transactions easy, reliable, efficient, and less stressful for customers. The introduction of these digitally enabled services means customers no longer have to be in long queues or be worried if their power gets terminated if they exhaust their previous purchase.
How to buy ECG power USSD Short Code
The USSD short code can be used to purchase ECG power with any mobile money service provider.
Customers can get a non-smartphone version of the service which is available via USSD shortcode *226#.
This means that Yam phones can also be used to buy ECG power credit by just dialing *226# and following the prompts.
However, you must know the Meter Number and the name on the meter to use both the USSD short code and the app.
How to buy ECG power using a mobile app
To use the mobile app to buy power, customers have to first download the app from the Play Store or bookstore.

The ECG PowerApp is the official smartphone app for all customers, special load tariff users
and vendors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The app is available for both Android smartphones and iPhones for customers to pay postpaid bills and buy prepaid credits for electricity supplied by the ECG.
A user is required to enter their valid mobile phone number to receive a free One Time Password (OTP) via SMS text message to log in.
If the OTP is not received, the user may dial the shortcode *713*414# to view the OTP within 5 minutes after their login attempt.
Both Prepaid and Postpaid meters can be added to a user’s account.
To add a meter a user must provide the meter number and confirm the details.
To save the meter the user must give the meter a name and add the Ghana Post GPS address of the property.
The GhanaPost GPS address enables ECG to notify the user about relevant service issues that may affect the service to the meter.
Once a meter is saved, the user may tap on the meter card to get “More Details” on the meter.
Meter details may include credit balance for prepaid meters, payment history, and other details
How to Topping Up Prepaid Meters
To buy credit for a prepaid meter, the user must:
- Select Buy Credit on the saved prepaid meter.
- Enter the amount of prepaid credit to pay for.
- Select a preferred payment option.
- Proceed to see the status of the transaction and also view the receipt for a successful transaction.
- Should the transaction fail the user may report the failed transaction or wait to receive a refund.
Paying a Postpaid Bill on the ECG Power App
To pay a bill for a postpaid meter, the user must:
- Select Pay Bill on the saved postpaid meter.
- Enter the amount of postpaid credit to pay for
- Select a preferred payment option
- Proceed to see the status of the transaction and also view the receipt for a successful transaction.
- Should the transaction fail the user may report the failed transaction or wait to receive a refund.
Paying an SLT Bill on the ECG Power App
To pay a bill for an SLT Account, the
user must:
- Select Pay Bill on the saved SLT postpaid meter.
- Enter the required 70% or more payment on the debt of that meter.
- Proceed to see the status of the transaction and also view the receipt for a successful transaction.
- Should the transaction fail the user may report the failed transaction or wait to receive a refund.

Paying with Cheque Pay-In Slips on the ECG Power App
For users paying with bank cheques, a pay-in-slip will have to be generated via PowerApp or USSD.
Do note that ECG’s offices will no longer accept payments made by cheques of any kind.
To generate a pay-in slip,
- Select CHEQUE: Generate Pay-In Slip when choosing payment method.
- A pay-in slip will be generated with the relevant details to enable payment at the users bank branch.
- The pay-in slip may be printed by the user or shared privately via social media for the bank to complete the payment.
Paying Invoices on the ECG Power App
ECG officials may issue an invoice to request for a payment from any user on the ECG PowerApp.
A user may pay for an invoice from mobile money or bank card and can also return to the same invoice to see details (receipt) of the payment.
Topping Up Vendor Accounts
A vendor is a user that is authorized by ECG to operate a service point where users of ECG may visit to buy prepaid credits or pay postpaid bills.
A list of all the vendors associated with the user is displayed to allow generate an invoice for any of
the vendors.
A vendor may generate an invoice to top up their account balance of any of the metering systems they sell.
An invoice may be generated for one metering system or multiple metering systems which has to be paid at a bank that receives Ghana.GOV payments.
An invoice can be accessed at a later time to view the payment status of the invoice when paid at the bank.
Reporting an Issue
A user may report general issues by typing out the issue and attaching photos to send.
All issues reported are assigned a unique Ticket ID.
A user may also report issues on the payment transaction.
A user is sent a notification from the ECG customer care team for responses to issues reps.
