Before his sentencing in November, Hushpuppi addressed a handwritten letter to the trial judge, Otis Wright of the US District Court for the Central District of California, pleading with him not to tamper with justice.
He submitted a passionate letter to the court on September 9 from Central Valley Annex Prison in McFarland, California.
The three-page letter was among the materials his attorneys have presented in court, pleading with the judge to decrease his sentence below the estimated range prescribed by legislation.
Hushpuppi has promised to return $1.7 million in reparations to victims of his fraudulent schemes, even though he only profited $300,000 from the crimes.
“Your Honour, I recognize the seriousness of my offense and no amount of sorry can right my wrong in the hearts of the victims,” he wrote.
“This is why I have decided to use my money to offset the entire $1,700,000 restitution even though I only benefited a fraction of $300,000 plus but it makes me feel better that all the victims get every penny back.”
“I consider it part punishment for myself, and that’s the appropriate thing to do,” Hushpuppi remarked. Your Honour, I am different in how I think, see life, and make judgments.

“My priorities in life have (sic) moved, my emphasis in life has shifted, I have realized how valuable life and freedom are, and how critical it is to be on the right side of the law.”
“Your Honour, I would like to request that you consider my act of forfeiting my possessions, which I worked hard for many years, for full restitution payback as part of my sentence.”
The Nigerian has been detained since his arrest in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and extradition to the United States (US) in June 2020.
