Interdict Registrar of Scholarship Secretariat, Minority Calls
Following the damming revelations and rot in the award of scholarships to prominent government officials and leaders by the Scholarship Secretariat, the minority in parliament has called for the interdiction of the Registrar of Scholarship Secretariat.
The revelations made about the ward of scholarships to politicians and political appointees instead of brilliant and needed Ghanaian students have shocked the entire nation to the core.
The Fourth Estate’s investigative work exposed the rot that the entire nation has been oblivious to for the past 7 years.
This is what compelled the Minority in Ghana’s Parliament to demand the immediate interdiction of the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat.

Per the report filed by the Fourth Estate, nearly all scholarships, intended for deserving and academically excellent students in need, were instead granted based on political affiliations and other inappropriate criteria.
The investigation further revealed that individuals associated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) received scholarships they did not deserve due to their status and the Scholarship Secretariat’s policy, clouding the award of scholarships from 2019 to 2020.
In one instance, an NPP official was alleged to have gained multiple scholarships totaling £57,210 for postgraduate studies, while a Special Assistant to the Vice President’s spouse purportedly obtained £17,355 for a programme in the UK, which they allegedly never attended.

We have also called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor to take up the matter. Testimonies provided by Ghanaians domestically and internationally indicate that the Scholarship Secretariat has politicized the ward of scholarships.
