Thermal cameras have revealed that many people are still alive and buried beneath a pile of debris close to the residence where Christian Atsu was staying before the earthquake struck.

Ajansspor, a Turkish tabloid, reported that about 1,000 people have been found to be alive.

On February 6, 2023, a magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria, killing at least 12,000 people.

According to some encouraging news out of Turkey, thermal cameras have detected the heat signatures of numerous people who are still alive and buried beneath the rubble where Christian Atsu was staying before the devastating earthquake.

For instance, the Turkish tabloid Ajansspor tweeted on Thursday morning that 1,000 people may still be alive but trapped beneath collapsed structures.

“There are many living people, confirmed by thermal cameras. The building, where national handball player Cemal Kütahya and his family, Hatayspor manager Taner Savut and football player Christian Atsu are located, is very crowded with a capacity of 1000 people,” the tabloid tweeted.

Infrared emissions from living things are converted by thermal cameras into an electronic image that displays the object’s apparent surface temperature.
