JHS 1 And JHS 2 Students Who Wrote 2023 BECE In Trouble; Here’s Why
The Ghana Education Service is currently fishing out JHS 1 and JHS 2 students who wrote the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
During the registration of the 2023 BECE, GES and WAEC clearly stated that both the WASSCE and BECE are for candidates or students who are in their third/final year. It is therefore against the rules and regulations of the examination for schools to register students who are in JHS 1 or JHS 2.
JHS 1 And JHS 2 Students Who Wrote 2023 BECE In Trouble; Here’s Why
Currently, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a directive to all regional, metro, and district directors of education, requesting them to furnish the GES with a list of attending and absent Junior High School (JHS) 1 and JHS 2 students, particularly during the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) week, scheduled for Monday, August 7th to Friday, August 11th, 2023.

Furthermore, the GES has made it mandatory for all school administrators, whether in public or private schools, to provide the names of JHS one and two students.
Additional information obtained by Graphic Online indicates that the GES is also seeking attendance records for all JHS 2 students during the 2021/2022 academic year. Essentially, the GES aims to monitor the attendance of students who participated in the 2023 BECE in August and were enrolled in the 2021/2022 academic year.
In response to this development, some education experts have informed Graphic Online that the GES’s objective is to identify students in Forms One and Two who may have advanced without the necessary qualifications and took the 2023 BECE. As a result, such students could face disqualification from entering Senior High School in Form One. Additionally, the GES might impose sanctions on both the students and the school administrators who facilitated this action.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) requests for the submission of names of absentees of Junior High School (public and private) Form One and Form Two (JHS1 & JHS2) students of 2022/2023 academic year from 7th to 11th August, 2023. Heads of Junior High Schools are directed to submit the names of JHS1 and JHS2 students who were absent from school from 7th to 11th August, 2023 of the 2022/2023 academic year to accompanied by their class attendance registers for verification. their respective Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education
Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education are to compile and submit the names of students to the Director-General through their respective Regional Directors of Education by close of work on Wednesday, 18th October, 2023.
The data should be submitted through the following email address: [email protected] or Whatsapp number 0244 981 006
By this letter, Regional Directors are kindly requested to communicate this information to the Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education to inform all Heads of Junior High Schools and ensure that the data is submitted within the stipulated deadline.” GES wrote.
