Heavy rains on Saturday, March 2, 2024 displace 250 students of Ejisu Senior High Technical School (SHTS). The storm mercilessly tore off the roof of the boys’ dormitory, leaving scores of students displaced and their shelter compromised. The calamity, which struck with unexpected force, forced over 250 students to seek refuge in classrooms as their dormitory lay exposed to the elements.
Thankfully, the students had been at the dining hall when disaster struck, sparing them from harm. However, the destructive force of the storm wreaked havoc not only on the dormitory but also on several classrooms, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Teaching and learning materials, vital for the academic pursuit of the students, were not spared either, as the school’s storeroom suffered significant damage.

In the face of this adversity, authorities swiftly intervened, providing interim accommodation for the displaced students. Engineers and officers from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) joined forces with the Ejisu Municipal Assembly to assess the extent of the damage and formulate a recovery plan. The visit of the Municipal Chief Executive for Ejisu, Samuel Oduro Frimpong, accompanied by the Education Director, brought reassurance and a promise of support to the beleaguered school community.
However, the plight caused by the rainstorm extended beyond Ejisu Senior High Technical School, as neighboring educational institutions such as Ejisu Experimental and Krapa Basic Schools also bore the brunt of nature’s fury. With roofs ripped off and infrastructure compromised, these schools faced similar challenges in providing a safe learning environment for their students.
As the affected schools grapple with the aftermath of the storm, it serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of educational infrastructure to natural disasters. Yet, amidst the destruction, there is hope as communities come together to support one another in times of need, embodying the resilience and spirit of unity that defines the human experience.
