The President, John Dramani Mahama, on the first day at work as Ghana’s 6th president under the 4th republic, has revoked with immediate effect the appointment of MMDCEs under the Nana Addo-led government.
All Assembly Members appointed pursuant to the relevant local government act have also been directed to exit their offices as directed by the president.
The president has directed all coordinating officials to take over MMDCEs pending the appointment of new MMDCEs by the John Mahama-led government.
The letter revoking the MMDCEs read:
In accordance with the powers vested in H.E. John Mahama under the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended by the Local Government (Amendment) Act, 2019 (Act 940), the following appointments have been revoked effective today.

In the interim, the respective Coordinating Directors of the various MMDCEs are directed to assume responsibility as acting Chief Executives until substantive appointments are duly made.
The president is expected in the coming weeks to recommend for appointment the new Chief Executive of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies as well as Assembly Members
