KNUST Releases Updated Reopening Dates for All Students: First-Year Undergraduate Students, International Students, Graduate School, and Undergraduate Continuing Students.

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has released admissions for all qualified international students. In a blog post by the university, it stated that international students who have been offered admission for the 2024/2025 academic year will report on the 4th of January 2025 as scheduled.

The university also indicated that all undergraduate and postgraduate continuing students will report for the 2024/2025 Semester 1 from the 11th of January 2025. However, it has put on hold the reporting date for WASSCE candidates whose results WAEC is yet to release.

In a press release dated December 24, 2024, the Office of the Registrar of KNUST stated that the Executive Committee of the institution, at an emergency meeting held on the 4th of December 2024, agreed on the following:

  1. A new reopening date for prospective first-year undergraduate Ghanaian students will be announced after the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
  2. International students who have been offered admission for the 2024/2025 academic year will report on the 4th of January 2025 as scheduled.
  3. All first-year postgraduate students shall report on the 4th of January 2025 as scheduled.
  4. All continuing students (undergraduate and postgraduate) shall report on the 11th of January 2025 as scheduled.

RRAD: WAEC to Announce 2024 WASSCE Results but 19,808 Results To Be Cancelled

The KNUST decision to set a new reopening date for prospective first-year undergraduate Ghanaian students has been necessitated by the failure of the government to release funding to WAEC for the 2024 WASSCE. This has made it technically impossible for WAEC to release the results of candidates, thereby hindering the admission process for both public and private tertiary institutions.

In a related development, the Minister of Education has created a state of confusion and misinformation among the general public by disclosing, without any official consultation with WAEC, that the 2024 WASSCE results will be released on or before December 29, 2024. This information has been refuted by WAEC through Mr. John Kapi, the Head of WAEC’s Public Relations.

WAEC has therefore distanced itself from the December 29 WASSCE result release date and indicated further that the results will be released in 2025 after technicians have assessed the broken-down objective test scanning machines, raised the necessary funds to repair them, and commenced the scanning and marking of all pending objective tests. It added that the Council would provide timelines for when the general public should expect the results.
