The 17th Congregation of the university was held on 9th April, 2022 at the New Great Hall of the University with a total number of 2,793 students who completed their programmes in the 2020/2021 academic year. The programme categories were Master of Technology (MTech), Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Higher National Diploma (HND), Professional Diploma, Ordinary Diploma and the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) Diploma.
Speaking at the 17th Congregation, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) Ing. Professor Nana Osei-Wusu Achaw noted that the University, in keeping with its vision of becoming a world-class technical university, had redoubled its efforts at reaching out to academic institutions across the globe. Ing. Professor Nana Osei-Wusu Achaw said, with these new developments, the University was firmly on track to become a credible global player in the delivery of academic programmes. He added that the Institution had radically designed its curricula in such a way that more emphasis is placed on acquisition of practical skills, entrepreneurship, industrial training and acquisition of soft skills to meet global and industry demands.
Prof. Achaw also appealed to the Asantehene to consider granting ownership of the land currently occupied by the University at the enclave of Danyame to the University. Touching on students offering TVET programmes, the VC noted that 47 percent of the students population of 12,000 were in this category. This, he said, was evident that the University was inching towards the 60 percent threshold that it was mandated to enroll. He advised the graduating students to make use of the training acquired from the Institution to be able to fit into the society.

He indicated that through a dint of hard work, the University had maintained its first position among the Technical Universities in Ghana and 8th among the numerous universities in the country.
Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo, the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of TVET, reiterated the Government’s quest to make TVET more attractive by retooling those institutions with the needed equipment for training of young Ghanaians. This, she believed, would engender skilled technicians and technologists for national development and encouraged all Ghanaians to have a different view of the TVET system. She assured the University that plans are underway to ensure that the University gets clearance to recruit more staff and mentioned the Government’s determination to improve on the infrastructural facilities in the University.
