Licensure Exams, Best Way to go – IFEST

The Executive Director of the Institute for Education Studies (IFEST) Dr Peter Anti, says the licensure examination is a good way to sift only the best educators for the classroom.

According to Dr Anti, the role of teachers cannot be overemphasised because they train the next generation of leaders, therefore, only the best must be allowed into the classrooms.

Speaking in an interview on the Pulse, he said “I also believe that this is the way to go. The system is focused, we just need to sustain and implement it faithfully for about 10 years and we will see a drastic change in the quality of teachers that will transform into quality of teaching that happens leading to quality education, quality outcomes and our children will be prepared for the future,” he said.

His comments follow the failure of over 9,000 candidates who sat for the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensing Examination (GTLE).

Dr Anti explained that despite the general concern that the licensure examination was denying the individuals who have been to training colleges the opportunity to work, he insists that it was for the greater good of the nation.

The Director said he could not fathom how people who claim to have spent many years studying a particular course cannot account for their various disciplines.
