Likely 2021 BECE Leakage and WAEC’s lone range fight

The chance that the 2021 BECE will be leaked is very high and the West African Examination Council (WAEC ) alone can not prevent it. If the WASSCE 2021 leakage that led to the rescheduling of some papers is anything to go by, WAEC does not have all it takes to win the fight.
Africa Education Watch, WAEC, and all well-meaning stakeholders interested in safeguarding the credibility of the WASSCE and BECE must be given a listening ear. The practice where WAEC is always trying to defend its systems and the institution when alleged leakages are reported leaves much to be desired.
As the BECE 2021 inches closer, examination leaking syndicates are also putting in place their strategies to outwith the systems to make available examination questions and solutions to parents, teachers, schools, and individuals who pay for their services.
2021 BECE leakage is a very high possibility and WAEC needs to collaborate with other institutions instead of its usual lone range fight.
WAEC must not wait for the examination to begin before it starts intelligence gathering since that will end in futility.
Providing a dedicated phone line for persons with information about attempts to leak BECE 2021 examination questions can be a step in the right direction to help stop such examination leakages which negatively impact the credibility of the examination.
Teachers and parents as adults must set good examples by not encouraging their students or wards to engage in any act of examination malpractice. They must not look for leaked examination papers for their candidates since that will embolden candidates to attempt to replicate the bad behaviour.
Failing to prepare candidates well enough for the examination can also urge learners to start looking for help from rogue websites and individuals.
Two months to the 2021 BECE, candidates were already looking for examination leaking syndicates to register with them to get help with subjects such as Mathematics and Integrated Science.
Teachers who are preparing candidates for these subjects know candidates generally do not do well in these subjects and so they are sometimes tempted to look for the so-called leaked questions for their candidates to make sure the students pass these subjects.
However, WAEC and all stakeholders must join forces to make sure that, the examination which is scheduled for November 2021 is devoid of leakages. WAEC must put in place very harsh punitive measures first of all for its permanent employees who will be caught in this criminal act. This would serve as a deterrent to all.

If WAEC fails to work harder than it did before the 2021 WASSCE for school candidates, it should be ready to face the music if the 2021 BECE Leakage occurs. The solution and strategies for foiling examination leakage is not in organizing press conferences and debunking claims by Africa Education Watch, it is in knowing that your best systems can still be compromised and thinking outside the box to introduce extra layers of security and collaboration to help safeguard the examination.
