On Sunday, the Argentina captain won the World Cup with his team.
This was the only trophy he hadn’t won in his long and successful career. Messi has been amazing in Qatar.
He has scored seven goals and set up three others. The 35-year-old old’s teammate Kylian Mbappe won the Golden Boot, but he still won the World Cup and the Golden Ball as the best player.
The Young Player of the Tournament award went to Enzo Fernandez of Argentina, and the Golden Glove award went to La Albiceleste’s No. 1 goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Messi has scored 26 goals in major international tournaments for Argentina (13 in the World Cup and 13 in the Copa América), which is more than any other South American player has ever scored in both tournaments combined, surpassing Ronaldo in the process (25).
