Dr.Kwame Nkrumah the First President of Ghana who once said we must find an African Solution to African problems played a vital part in Ghana’s Educational sector by building and constructing numerous educational facilities such Senior High Schools and Universities in and outside the capital to increase literacy, social development and acquisitions of Knowledge and skills by Ghanaian and African of school going age. Some of the Schools he built during his nine years office as president of Ghana include;
– University Of Cape Coast (UCC)
– Ghana National College, Cape Coast
– Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS
– Winneba secondary school
– Apam Secondary School
– Swedru Secondary School (SWESCO)
– Fosu Training College
– Ofori Panyin Secondary School
– Techiman Secondary School
– Dormaa Secondary School
– Tema Secondary School
– Oda Secondary School
– Labone Secondary School
– Kwadaso College of Education
– Atebubu Training College
– Berekum Training College
– Enchi Training College
– Turned University College of Gold Coast into University of Ghana (He became their first chancellor)
– Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)
– Institute of African Studies
– Kwame Nkrumah Institute of Economics and Political Science(now south campus of UEW)
– Ajumako School of Languages(now under UEW)
– Kumasi Technical Institute (now a University)
– Accra Polytechnic(now Accra Technical University)
He also introduced free Education Policy in the then three northern region (Upper West, Upper East East an Northern region) as a tool to improve Education and Literacy in that geographical areas.
He also awarded scholarship and grants to brilliant but needed students to further studies in and outside the country.
