Meet Araba Swaniker, The Face Behind ‘My First Copy Book’

The young girl behind ‘My First Copy Book’ has been unveiled as Mrs Araba Swaniker. She has been the face of the book since it’s inception in Ghana.

The original photo, taken by American photographer Willis Eugene Bell, was recreated with the help of Ghanaian photographer Ben Adu.

My First Copy Book series is often tailored for young learners, typically preschoolers and early elementary school students. In Ghana, the book is used in all pre school stages to help pupils get good writing skills. These workbooks aim to develop fundamental writing skills by offering guided exercises that focus on;

1. Letter Formation:

The books usually start with teaching how to write individual letters. They guide children through the correct way to form each letter, both uppercase and lowercase.

2. Basic Words

As children progress, the workbooks might include exercises where they write simple words. These activities reinforce letter formation and help in recognizing basic vocabulary.

3. Numbers and Counting

Some editions might include exercises for practicing number writing and basic counting activities.

4. Fine Motor Skills

Through various tracing exercises and activities, these books also contribute to the development of fine motor skills, which are crucial for writing and other tasks.

5. Progressive Learning

The series typically follows a step-by-step learning process. It starts with simpler tasks, such as tracing straight lines, curves, and shapes, and gradually advances to tracing and copying letters, numbers, and words

The book often incorporates colorful illustrations, engaging activities, and gradual progression in difficulty to make the learning process enjoyable and accessible for young children.
