NAGRAT outlines what has delayed 2023 SHS placement release
The 2023 School Placement has been delayed, which has put students and parents under unnecessary stress.
The President of the President of National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu has disclosed that the delay in the release of the school placement is due to ongoing investigation into the rot that occurred during the 2022 placement. The corrupt activities and human interference that characterized last year’s placement were made public by the Forth Estate in its investigative piece released on 30th January 2023.
Mr. Angel Carbonu did reveal that the delay in the release of the computerized school placement was the ongoing probe into the recent scandal of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
He furthered that, the entire school placement process may be overhauled to stop the corrupt activities that have become a cash cow for some people.
The corrupt practices captured in the investigative piece by The Fourth Estate have confirmed fears and suspicion that the school placement system has been illegally monetized by individuals and syndicates
“There is an investigation on a report about the placement in 2022, and it has really shaken the foundations of certain people in authority, and they would want to put in measures to ensure that we don’t revert to that same thing.
Placement in school, why should somebody pay GH₵10,000 or GH₵20,000 to get your daughter to Wesley Girls, I am sure some of these are the things being streamlined hence the delay in placements,” the NAGRAT president stated.
As part of efforts to ensure a smooth and free and fair placement of students who sat for 2022 BECE, Mr Carbonu suggested that the Ghana Education Service (GES) should take complete charge of the placement system.

“Placement to school should be within the ambit of the GES, not the Ministry of Education. There is a certain secretariat and I wonder the relevance or importance of that secretariat, the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) Secretariat.
He could not understand why the Free SHS has a secretariat.
I wonder why we still have that secretariat because they are not teachers, they are political appointees, and they are running the Free SHS, but I don’t know what they do, and I have a difficulty in why they are found operating in every sphere of education,” he said.
