NDC Sends Strong Message To Bryan Acheampong Over NPP Will Not Hand Over Power To NDC In 2024
Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and Minister of Food and Agriculture, recently made a statement that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) would not cede power to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the 2024 General Elections.
The statement has garnered criticism, particularly from NDC members who challenged him and others to try to rig the 2018 elections. In response, Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the NDC, called Acheampong’s comments “ludicrous tantrums” in a Facebook post.
Gyamfi emphasized that sovereignty belongs to the people, not to a political party and that nobody can subvert the will of the majority of the Ghanaian electorate. He also made fun of Acheampong’s military service, which lasted only two years in the US Air Force.
Acheampong claims that the NPP will use all of its resources to win the general elections in 2024, and his party has the men to compete head-to-head with the opposition.
He emphasized that the NPP is not prepared to cede power to the NDC and will use any means to stay in power. Gyamfi countered that power ultimately belongs to the people, not a man who served as a mere Airman Basic for about two years.
The statement by Acheampong has sparked criticism and controversy, with some questioning the NPP’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law. The comments also suggest a lack of confidence in the democratic process and the will of the Ghanaian electorate.
The exchange highlights the need for political parties to engage in respectful and constructive dialogue, and to promote democracy and transparency in their actions and statements. Ultimately, it is up to the people to decide who should govern them, and politicians should respect their choices and work towards the common good of all Ghanaians.
