New Digital Transport Fee For Ride-Sharing Apps Hits Uber, Bolt and Yango as the government seeks to obtain more tax revenues.
Effective 1st April 2023, The New Digital Transport Fee For Ride-Sharing Apps In Ghana Was Introduced. The digital transport fee (DTF)will affect every kind of rider in Ghana per the directive issued by the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA).
Ride-hailing apps such as Uber have informed their users that all rides on Uber will be impacted by the new fee. The new digital transport fee (DTF) charged per rise is GHS1.00 for every trip completed.
As part of efforts to increase transparency and customer satisfaction as to how much they are paying under the new digital transport fee (DTF), Uber has introduced the cost item as a new line item on its app for users of the service. Uber, therefore, displays the DTF as a separate line item on your receipt as a user of the service.
The new fee will be charged on the services of ride-hailing ups such as Uber, Bolt, and Yango and transferred to the customer as an extra cost.
In a related development, prior to the new fee, Uber cut its commission fee from 25% to 20% for drivers after several agitations by its key stakeholders who use the app to pick up customers. This was accompanied by an increase in the minimum fare by GHS1.00 from GHS7.00 to GHS8.00 while the minimum price for those who seek rides that provide comfort went up from GHS9.00 to GHS10.00
Bolt also provides added value such as Driver identification and incentivizing drivers to take on-card trips.
Just in case you see the new digital transport fee (DTF) charges showing up as a new cost of service after your next ride, do not be surprised.
Here are five benefits of ride-hailing apps to consider when traveling.
Convenience: Ride-hailing apps allow users to book a ride quickly and easily through their smartphones, eliminating the need to call a taxi or wait on a street corner.
Cost savings: Ride-hailing apps often offer lower fares compared to traditional taxis, as they have lower overhead costs and are able to leverage economies of scale.
Improved safety: Many ride-hailing apps include safety features such as GPS tracking, driver ratings, and emergency buttons, which can help ensure the safety of both passengers and drivers.
Increased accessibility: Ride-hailing apps have expanded access to transportation services for individuals who may have difficulty using traditional taxis, such as those with disabilities or who live in areas with limited public transportation.

Reduced traffic congestion: By facilitating carpooling and reducing the number of individual cars on the road, ride-hailing apps have the potential to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in urban areas.
