The Cry for Help from Newly Posted Teachers in Bono East Who Have Not Been Paid For 10 Months Is Deafining Yet, There Is No Solution In Sight.
The absence of a responsive Ghana Education Service (GES) in addressing the plight of newly posted teachers in the Bono East Region is having devastating effects on the affected educators. These teachers have gone without salaries for the past 10 months, and the consequences are taking a daily toll on their wellbeing.
In a letter sighted by the Ghana Education News portal, the affected teachers have called on the GES to take immediate and proactive steps to resolve the persistent bottlenecks.
The teachers, numbering about 200, revealed that they have not received any salary since being posted in July 2024. The letter stated:
“Over 200 newly posted teachers in the Bono East Region have not been paid a single salary since reporting to our stations in July 2024.”
According to the teachers, the affected members are yet to receive their Staff IDs, which are the first basic requirement for processing salaries under the Ghana Education Service. Since reporting to their respective schools, they have continued to render their services to the nation without receiving any compensation.
“Not even one month’s salary has been paid to us, despite teaching tirelessly, showing up every day, and carrying out all duties as expected,” the teachers lamented.
In their letter to the GES, the teachers further alleged:
“…some GES and IPPD officials claim our financial clearance has ‘expired’ — a claim that is false and unfair.”
They challenged the validity of this claim and argued that if other newly posted teachers are being paid, they should not be the exception.

To get their grievances heard by the appropriate authorities in Accra, the affected teachers plan to embark on a peaceful picketing exercise at the GES Headquarters, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Finance on Monday, 23rd June 2024.
“This is not out of disrespect but a last resort to make our voices heard by the decision-makers at GES,” they emphasized.
The teachers have outlined three key demands, which they believe will resolve the situation and bring an end to their 10-month salary delay:
-
Immediate release of Staff ID numbers.
-
Full payment of the 10 months’ salary arrears.
-
Cessation of the spread of the false claim that their financial clearance has expired.

To:
Ministry of Education
Ghana Education Service (GES)
All Teacher Unions
Senior Teachers and Respected Stakeholders
We write this letter with heavy hearts, deep frustration, and a sense of urgency on behalf of over 200 newly posted teachers in the Bono East Region who have not been paid a single salary since reporting to our stations in July 2024—nearly a year ago.
After successfully completing our training from accredited Colleges of Education, we were officially posted on 5th July 2024 with full financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance. Like our colleagues in other regions, we expected to be welcomed into the Ghana Education Service and begin our professional journey with hope and pride.
But sadly, that has not been our story.
As we write this, none of us has received our Staff ID—the first basic requirement for processing salaries. Not even one month’s salary has been paid to us, despite teaching tirelessly, showing up every day, and carrying out all our duties as expected of us.
What hurts the most is that our colleagues from the same batch, who posted on the same date with the same clearance, are receiving their salaries in other regions. Why are we being treated differently? Why must we suffer while others are rewarded?
To make matters worse, we are being told by some GES and IPPD officials that our financial clearance has “expired”—a claim that is false and unfair. Our clearances were processed together. If others are being paid, why are we the exception?
We have done everything asked of us. We’ve submitted our documents many times, made endless trips to district and regional offices, and waited patiently for 10 months. Yet, no solution has come. Some of us cannot pay our rent, cannot feed ourselves properly, and feel disrespected and forgotten by a system we trusted.
Therefore, we have decided to peacefully picket at the GES Headquarters, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Finance in Accra on Monday, 23rd June 2024. This is not out of disrespect but a last resort to make our voices heard.
We are not asking for charity or special treatment. We are simply asking for what we have worked for/hard.
We humbly appeal to you:
1. Please help us get our Staff ID numbers immediately.
2. Please push for the full payment of our 10 months’ salary arrears.
3. Please help stop the spread of the false claim that our clearance has expired.
To the Ministry, GES, Teacher Unions, and all respected leaders in education—we need your voice, your power, and your support. Your intervention can bring back our hope, restore our dignity, and prove that the system still cares for its own.
We thank you for your time and pray you act swiftly.
Yours faithfully,
Concerned Newly Posted Teachers
Bono East Region
