Nigerian Doctor Receives Life Imprisonment for Raping Wife’s Niece
A Nigerian court has delivered a verdict that will send shockwaves through the country, as Dr Olufemi Olaleye, a prominent medical director, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the heinous crime of rape. The victim? His wife’s teenage niece.
The horrifying ordeal lasted over a year, until Olaleye’s wife discovered the truth and bravely decided to inform the police.
As the prosecutor outlined in court, the doctor sexually assaulted the young girl repeatedly during the period between December 2019 and July 2022, when she was living with their family.
During the trial, an array of witnesses came forward to testify against Olaleye.
His wife, Aderemi Olaleye, revealed that she first became aware of the abuse when the victim confided in her and the family’s driver.
The courageous young girl disclosed that the doctor had not only been sleeping with her, but had also issued death threats to ensure her silence. Even more disturbingly, he forced her to witness explicit pornography.
In addition to the victim and his wife, four other witnesses provided crucial evidence to bolster the case against the doctor.

These included a medical doctor, a child-care expert, and two police officers involved in the investigations. They all painted a damning picture of Olaleye as a dangerous offender.
On Tuesday, Justice Rahman Oshodi issued the long-awaited judgement, stating that the evidence overwhelmingly implicated the defendant.
Oshodi declared Olaleye a danger to society and noted his complete lack of remorse. The judge also emphasized the significance of the doctor’s earlier confession to the police, deeming it a solid validation of his guilt.
Despite the doctor’s lawyer pleading for leniency based on Olaleye’s profession as a cancer doctor and his lack of prior offenses, the judge was resolute.
The court aimed to set an example, demonstrating that sexual violence would not be tolerated in Nigeria. Oshodi sentenced Olaleye to life imprisonment, ensuring that justice was served.
As an additional measure, the judge also ordered for Olaleye’s name to be added to the Lagos State sex offenders register.
This registry aims to protect society from potential repeat offenders and to serve as a deterrent to others who might consider committing similar crimes.
The sentencing of Dr Olufemi Olaleye carries significant weight, marking a milestone in Nigeria’s fight against sexual violence.
It sends a clear message that no one is above the law, regardless of their profession or status.
This case will serve as a reminder that the victims of such heinous crimes must be heard and justice must prevail.
