Donald Trump Compares Himself to Nelson Mandela

Former US President Donald Trump drew a controversial comparison between him and Nelson Mandela during a rally in New Hampshire on Monday. He likened himself to South Africa’s late leader and Nobel Peace laureate, Nelson Mandela, portraying himself as a victim of federal and state prosecutors whom he alleges are targeting him and his businesses for political reasons.
Much of Trump’s speech during his return to the state to register for its presidential primary focused on the criminal and civil cases against him. At one point, he suggested he was unafraid of the prospect of prison, akin to Mandela, who spent 27 years in jail for opposing South Africa’s apartheid system.

“I don’t mind being Nelson Mandela because I’m doing it for a reason. I’m doing it for a reason. We’ve got to save our country from these fascists,” Trump asserted.
The former president claimed that prosecutors primarily target those who challenge the results of elections while sparing those who engage in election fraud. He argued that people who question the results of an election are hounded, while those who cheat face no consequences.
During the rally, Trump also recited the lyrics of the song “The Snake,” which he has used as an allegory for what he claims are the dangers of illegal immigration. He warned that President Biden’s policies would turn the country into a hotbed for jihadists and transform its cities into dumping grounds resembling the Gaza Strip.

Notably, Trump, who is seeking the Republican nomination for the next year’s presidential elections, is currently facing a total of 91 criminal counts, including four related to alleged federal 2020 election subversion. The comparisons made during the rally have stirred controversy and sparked discussions on the appropriateness of such analogies.
