NSMQ 2026: Edinaman SHS Stages Comeback to Secure One-eighth Spot!

The Preliminary Stage of the 2026 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) National Championship, opened with a contest featuring Edinaman SHS, WA Senior High School and Abomosu STEM SHS. Dr Anita Adjoa Oppong, lavishly styled by GTP, moderated the contest in the Main Auditorium of the University of Cape Coast. At the end of the contest, Edinaman SHS booked a seat at the One-eighth Stage, finishing with 47 points.

After an early exit at the Preliminary Stage last year, Edinaman Senior High School returned to the 2026 National Championship determined to make a stronger impression.
The contest began with Abomosu STEM SHS taking the early lead in the General Questions round, which covered Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Abomosu STEM SHS picked up 14 points, just one point ahead of Edinaman SHS on 13, while WA Senior High School had seven points.

Edinaman SHS, however, quickly turned the tables in Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race. The school came out strongly to take the lead with 28 points, while Abomosu STEM SHS had 12 points and WA Senior High School remained on seven.

The momentum continued into Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star Problem of the Day, as Edinaman SHS added four points to extend its lead to 32. WA Senior High School picked up two points to move to nine, while Abomosu STEM SHS also added four points to reach 16.
Edinaman SHS continued to strengthen its position in Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False segment, extending its lead to 44 points. Abomosu STEM SHS moved to 29 points, while WA Senior High School remained on eight points.

By Round Five, the GOIL Super Bonanza, the schools faced a series of riddles as they battled to secure their places in the next stage. Edinaman SHS fought hard and won the contest with 47 points, WA Senior High School scored 35 points and Abomosu STEM SHS scored 11 points.
The result marks a significant turnaround for Edinaman SHS following their Preliminary Stage defeat last year. They have booked a seat at the One-eighth Stage.

Speaking after the contest, Edinaman SHS describing the contest as challenging, they expressed hopes of advancing further while securing a seeding for next year’s National Championship.

For WA Senior High School and Abomosu STEM SHS, the journey ends at the preliminary stage, but both schools remain hopeful of returning next year with renewed determination and stronger preparations.
