NSMQ 2026: Accra Girls’ SHS Storms into the One-eighth Stage!

The first day of the Preliminary Stage of the 2026 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) National Championship, got off to an exciting start at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) Auditorium, with three schools ready to battle for a place in the One-eighth Stage.
In a calm atmosphere, the three schools took turns to recite their anthems before Quiz Mistress, Mrs Rachel Annoh, kicked off the contest between Accra Girls’ SHS, Asamankese SHS and Sandema SHS.

Accra Girls’ SHS was represented by Elizabeth Lomokie Nanor and Doris Anale Ayigbadek; Asamankese SHS fielded Samuel Amankwa and Joel Kwasi Adande Agbemebia, while Vitus Alimisiwon Adogta and Christian Akanvariwen Aguntanla represented Sandema SHS.
At the end of the five rounds of the contest, it was Accra Girls’ SHS that carried the day with 52 points, sailing through to the One-eighth Stage. Asamankese SHS and Sandema SHS ended their journey with 39 and 23 respectively.

At the end of Round One, Accra Girls’ SHS sent a clear warning to their opponents, winning the round with 23 points, while Sandema SHS and Asamankese SHS both ended the round on 11 points.
In Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race Round, Asamankese bolted early by answering all the first three questions correctly, but in the end, Accra Girls’ SHS demonstrated agility, bouncing back to win the round. Accra Girls’ SHS lead the round with 33 points while Asamankese SHS and Sandema SHS trailed behind with 17 and 10 points respectively.

In the Prudential Life NSMQ Star Problem of the Day in Round Three, none of the three schools was able to solve the problem correctly. Asamankese SHS, however, emerged on top with three points, while Accra Girls’ SHS earned one point. Sandema SHS, unfortunately, left the round without a point after accidentally wiping their screen before the bell went off.
In the Jupay Money Transfer True/False Round Four, Asamankese SHS answered all the questions correctly to secure a clean sheet win of GH₵500.

The GOIL Riddle Bonanza in Round Five, the final round of the contest, tested the students’ ability to solve riddles, with Accra Girls’ SHS once again leading the pack. The school garnered six points, while Asamankese SHS and Sandema SHS earned three points each.
Of the four cash prizes at stake, only the Jupay Clean Sheet, worth GH₵500, was won at this stage, with Asamankese SHS taking home the prize.
