The leadership of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has served a final notice for its impending withheld WASSCE results demonstration.
According to the association, the demonstration will take place on February 25, as the student front leads efforts to put pressure on the West African Examination Council to release the results of WASSCE 2024 candidates, which WAEC has still not released.
Ahead of the demonstration, the Ghana Police Service has been officially informed by NUGS of its intended protest. The demonstration starts at 9 am at the Obra Spot, Circle in Accra.
NUGS emphasises that the protest is to demand fairness and transparency in WAEC’s investigative approach to resolving alleged examination malpractices and the way WAEC manages the results of students.
The press statement announcing the official demonstration against WAEC regarding the withheld 2024 WASSCE results was communicated on Tuesday, February 18. NUGS described WAEC’s actions as unjust and an abuse of discretionary power in the final determination of the results and fate of students.
WAEC’s result investigations and processes for determining whether a student broke any punishable examination rules have been questioned in recent times by parents, schools, students and other stakeholders.
“This demonstration is a protest against what we see as an injustice and an abuse of discretionary power by WAEC. NUGS demands urgent intervention to rectify this situation and ensure that affected students are given a fair opportunity to continue their education.
“We call on all affected students, parents, concerned stakeholders, and all students to join us in this fight for justice,” the statement read. NUGS strongly condemned WAEC’s handling of the results, stating that the delays and cancellations have “unfairly” impacted thousands of students.
“Even for those whose results have been released, the delay has rendered them ineligible for admission into public tertiary institutions, as all admission processes have now been concluded,” the union added.
The protest aims to pressure WAEC and relevant authorities to take swift action to address the concerns of affected students and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

NUGS hopes that this withheld 2024 WASSCE results demonstration will send a strong signal to WAEC.
