One shot dead, 8 injured in gun attack at Adome
In a tragic gun attack incident on Friday, October 27, 2023, one person lost their life, and eight others sustained injuries in a targeted murder in Adome, a suburb of Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region.
The violence erupted as armed individuals aligned with one faction of a chieftaincy dispute embarked on a procession through the streets of Adome, carrying a palanquin and firing shots sporadically.
Reports indicate that in Adome, one of the procession participants pointed out an individual named Emmanuel Tetteh Narh, also known as Ozibo, who was then fatally shot. Ozibo, aged 55 and a father of four, was killed by the gunmen at close range near his home.
An eyewitness, Robert, who is a nephew of the deceased, shared his account of the tragic event. He explained that he and Ozibo were inside their house at around 7 am when they heard gunshots coming from the roadside. When Ozibo decided to go outside, Robert cautioned him against doing so due to the ongoing gunfire. Despite the warning, Ozibo ventured out, and one of the gunmen named Tackie pointed his gun at him and shot him, causing him to fall into a nearby gutter.

The assailants then pursued Robert, but he managed to escape. During the procession, the gunmen continued to fire shots, eventually confronting Ozibo’s niece, Jasmine Dede Narh, and a male neighbor as they were on their way to the hospital to check on Ozibo’s condition.
The armed men intercepted the car carrying the two and subjected the driver to assault. They also aimed their firearms at Jasmine Dede Narh, initiating a round of indiscriminate shooting. The volley of gunfire resulted in injuries to eight bystanders, including a prison officer.
Miss Narh described the scene, saying that the assailants targeted the driver and assaulted him before pointing their guns at her. The random shooting during this encounter left multiple innocent bystanders with gunshot wounds.
Local youth from the Adome community managed to apprehend one of the gunmen, identified as Effah Samuel. He explained to his captors that he was a trotro (minibus) driver from Dodowa and had been coerced into joining the group. He claimed to have no prior knowledge of their intentions.
The situation prompted a response from the Odumase police station, and police personnel arrived at the scene to restore order. Effah Samuel is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital under police guard.
The remains of the deceased, Ozibo, have been taken to the mortuary at St. Martin’s De Porres Hospital, while the injured victims are also receiving care at the same medical facility. This tragic incident underscores the need for addressing security concerns and ensuring the safety of communities.
