Past BECE Candidates Did This Mistake In Construction Questions And They Failed. For every Mathematics , there is a high possibility that construction questions will drop. Despite the constant repetition of that topic each year, students still perform poorly generally in that section. For the sake of the BECE candidates who will write their final exams this year, we will go through some of the common mistakes past seniors made in previous years. And the mistakes will be focused on construction only. The Chief Examiner identified these mistakes so candidates must take this seriously.

1. Inability to construct angles 30, 45, 135 and 150 degrees.
One typical mistake that candidates make every year is that, they always interchange the above angles. Sometimes, some candidates are unable to construct the angles not to talk about interchanging the angles. Students must therefore develop a mastery over the construction of the above angles.
2. Omitting some of the requirements in the question
WAEC unambiguously provide steps to candidate for every construction questions. For instance, for a whole question on construction, there will be sub-instructions under it for candidates. In 2015, candidates were asked in a final sub-instruction to measure |Q1Q2| and <Q1TQ2. The Chief Examiner revealed that some students refused to do those questions for unknown reason.

3. Presenting “dirty and unpresentable” works
Construction in itself is very difficult. It requires constant attention. Also, the least mistake a candidate does will translate into erasing everything to begin again. As such, when a candidate erases his or her work over and over again, the work is rendered unpresentable. Also, clarity in presentation attracts extra marks. Student must therefore endeavour to be very careful when attempting construction questions.
