‘Pay or Get Disconnected’ to begin Monday
Starting November 20, the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) is set to launch a nationwide operation titled “Pay or Get Disconnected” aimed at customers who have fallen behind on their water bill payments. In collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, this revenue mobilization initiative intends to address the issue of unpaid bills and ensure compliance with water usage charges.
The GWCL has issued a stern warning to both individual and corporate water users even before the ‘Pay or Get Disconnected’ initiative with outstanding balances, urging them to settle their debts promptly to avoid potential confrontations with the company’s taskforce. The Deputy Managing Director of GWCL, Collins Nuamah, emphasized the immediacy of the matter, advising customers to download the company’s app from Play or Apple stores for convenient bill payment.

During an interview on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo” on November 17 to sensitize people about the ‘Pay or Get Disconnected’ initiative, Nuamah assured customers that paying their bills would be hassle-free through the company’s app. He stressed the importance of timely payments to prevent any disruptions to water services and to maintain a positive relationship with the utility provider.
For those who choose to disregard the payment instructions, the consequences by the ‘Pay or Get Disconnected’ initiative is clear. The GWCL’s taskforce will carry out disconnections starting Monday, and customers should be prepared to face the associated fees for both disconnection and reconnection. This fee will be applicable regardless of whether the customer voluntarily pays their outstanding bills or waits until their water supply is cut off.

Nuamah about the ‘Pay or Get Disconnected’ highlighted the nationwide scope of the exercise, emphasizing that customers who delay responding to disconnection warnings cannot be guaranteed a swift reconnection. He underlined the potential inconvenience customers might face if they neglect their overdue bills, as reconnection timelines may extend beyond a week or two.
In summary, GWCL’s “Pay or Get Disconnected” initiative underscores the importance of timely bill settlement, and customers are strongly advised to comply to avoid both financial penalties and service disruptions.
