Police Assures Churches Incident Free Festive Season
The Ghana Police Service has assured churches in Ghana incident free festive season. The police assured the churches that they have implemented effective measures for a peaceful festive period.
While Christmas is primarily a Christian celebration, people of various faiths participate. However, crime statistics indicate increased criminal activity during this season.
Police Assures Churches Incident Free Festive Season
In a recent engagement with the leaders of both Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare assured stakeholders of robust security measures for Christmas and New Year, aiming for a peaceful period like the previous year. He emphasized the police’s commitment to serving the public and improving their relationship with civilians.

The IGP expressed the desire for a positive perception of the police, aiming for community cooperation. He reiterated the Police Service’s dedication to maintaining peace and reducing criminal activities, urging the public to have confidence in their efforts.
Dr. Dampare highlighted the Police Administration’s vision to be a leading institution nationally and globally, aiming to create a police force connected to, guided by, and serving the public.
“We would like you to pass on the message to your congregations that the police are on top of their job. Criminal activities have reduced and we will do more so they should be rest assured” he said.

“We will keep shaping and rebranding the Police Service to build a police of the people, by the people and for the people. Police of the people because the personnel will come out of the people, by the people because we will engage you to tell us what you want us to do and for the people because we will be there for you” he added
Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye commended the Police Service’s efforts and vision, emphasizing the significance of their agenda and the importance of the police in society. The churches also praised the police for their stakeholder engagement, recognizing its role in alleviating civilian fears.
Bishop Gordon Kisseih assured the police of the council’s support, while concerns about police soliciting money at barriers were addressed. Commissioner of Police (COP) Paul Manly Awini acknowledged this behavior, outlining measures to tackle it, including internal disciplinary actions to weed out the “bad lots.”

Assurances were given that efforts would intensify to eliminate such behavior within the Police Administration.
