Presec Legon, Achimota SHS and Prempeh College Not in WAEC’s Top Ten WASSCE Schools: Why?

Do you know that Presec Legon, Achimota SHS, and Prempeh College are not in WAEC’s Top Ten WASSCE Schools? You may be thinking that an excellent performance by these schools at the National Science and Math Quiz is enough to give a school overall bragging rights.

This announcement is a testament to the unwavering commitment and difficult work demonstrated by students, teachers, and school administrators all through the country by the schools named in the top 20 lists.

The performance of students from the various schools in all programmes offered is considered by WAEC in arriving at their list. Sadly, the three top schools (Presec Legon, Achimota SHS, and Prempeh College) are not in the top ten of the 20 best schools that excelled in WAEC-administered examinations.

Presec Legon managed to place 15th with a 78.09 score, while Premeh sits in the 17th position with 75.94 points; however, Achimota did not show up in the top 20 schools. What may be accounting for the poor showing of the traditional top schools? Could it be the school placement system or something more worrying? Schools such as Presec Legon and the others who are not in the top 10 or top 20 must begin to re-examine themselves and work on improving their ranking.
