Private School Owners Association endorse Mahama for president
Ahead of the December 7th election, the NDC and John Mahama’s campaign has received a significant boost as the Private School Owners Association in Greater Accra has endorsed Mahama for president.
According to the association, the ruling NPP government, led by President Nana Addo and the NPP presidential candidate Dr. Bawumia, has deliberately abandoned private schools over the past seven years in the implementation of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
The implementation of Free SHS has caused the collapse of many private senior high schools in the country, as the policy neglected these schools and rendered them unattractive.
The association has therefore decided to rally behind the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Mahama, in the upcoming December 7th election.
According to the school owners, the Free SHS policy will be reviewed by the former president, who plans to include private senior high schools in the program. They believe this move will provide financial relief, revive their businesses, and address the issue of overcrowding in public SHSs, as many private schools currently have unused capacity that is going to waste.
“Under the current NPP government, private schools have been neglected in critical national policies, including the Free Senior High School (FSHS) initiative. This exclusion has placed an undue burden on private schools, leading to significant financial challenges and, in some cases, the unfortunate closure of several institutions.

“John Dramani Mahama has pledged to address these concerns head-on. He has assured the Private School Owners Association that, when elected into office, he will take bold steps to include private schools in the FSHS policy.
“This inclusive approach will not only alleviate the financial struggles of private schools but also foster healthy competition and ensure that every Ghanaian student, regardless of their school type, benefits from government support,” the press release declaring their endorsement read.
The private school owners were of the view that it was only Mr. Mahama who could “revive and strengthen the private education sector and restore the dignity and sustainability” of their schools.
The decision by the school owners association to endorse Mahama for president is expected to be replicated by their members across the 16 regions.
