The Private Universities Affiliation Policyhas been abolished. This is as a result of the new education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023) passed by parliament.
By this new law, the Parliament of Ghana has suspended the current affiliation policy regime for all new private tertiary institutions, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said.
The Current Private Universities Affiliation Policy
Currently, existing private universities are required to affiliate with various public universities to help them develop to operate independently. With the new law, existing private universities are required to charter within 5 years.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Education Minister-designate disclosed that when approved as the country’s Education Minister he will review the huge amount of fees private universities in Ghana are currently paying to public universities as their affiliates.
