Professor John Owusu inducted second Vice-Chancellor of KTU

In a significant milestone for Koforidua Technical University (KTU), a grand investiture ceremony was held to welcome Professor John Owusu as its second Vice-Chancellor since its elevation from a polytechnic to a university status in 2016.
Alongside him, Professor Richard Ohene Asiedu was inducted as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, with Evelyn Fafa Adom stepping into the role of Registrar and Rev. Prince Baffour-Ofori as Director of Finance.
This new leadership team signifies a fresh chapter in KTU’s journey towards academic excellence and innovation.
The ceremony was graced by a spectrum of dignitaries, including Professor Yayra Dzakadzie from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Professor Samuel Obeng Apori, the Council Chairman of KTU, and other significant figures from academia and the community.
Their presence underscored the importance of this transition not just to Koforidua Technical University but to the broader educational and developmental agenda of the region.
Professor Owusu, previously a lecturer in the Hospitality Department, now takes the helm from Professor David Kofi Essumang, marking a continuation of the vision to transform Koforidua Technical University into a beacon of technical and vocational education in Ghana.
His induction comes with the colossal task of not only maintaining the high standards set by his predecessor but also propelling Koforidua Technical University to new heights in terms of academic offerings, research, and community engagement.
During his address, Professor Owusu outlined an ambitious vision for the university, encompassing 13 strategic areas ranging from infrastructural completion to enhancing practical training and increasing student enrolment.
Such comprehensive planning reflects a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing higher education in Ghana and KTU’s potential role in addressing them.

Echoing the sentiments of Professor Dzakadzie, the emphasis was laid on the pivotal role of tertiary education in national development, particularly through fostering a skilled workforce ready for the demands of the 21st century.
The focus on STEM education was highlighted as crucial in preparing students for the fourth industrial revolution, a testament to the forward-thinking approach of Koforidua Technical University under its new leadership.
Professor Owusu’s pledge to explore and maximise internally generated funds (IGF) acknowledges the financial constraints facing the university and the need for innovative solutions to sustain and enhance its operations.
His call for support from various educational bodies and the government is a reminder of the collective effort required to realize Koforidua Technical University ‘s ambitious goals.
As Koforidua Technical University embarks on this new chapter, the vision and determination of its leadership, coupled with the support of the university community and stakeholders, set a promising course towards achieving excellence in technical and vocational education, for the benefit of not only its students but also the nation as a whole.
